Ultraísta - Smalltalk (Four Tet remix)

This is the product of Radiohead’s super-producer Nigel Godrich, singer Laura Bettinson and one of my all-time favorite remixers, Four Tet.

Thank you Gilles Peterson for bringing this song to my attention.

Love Letter #28 “The Viral Explosion of Coexist”

In preparation for the launch of their latest album, Coexist, The XX teamed up with Microsoft to create a site to showcase the “art of digital sharing”. It includes an interactive and immersive visualisation of a world map, tracking the stream of the album as it is shared around the globe.

Fans are able to move the “time slider” next to the map that tracks the album’s movements over time in the lead-up to the release. Users can share the stream themselves to spread it even further.

Love Letter #27 “MTV + Death Grips”

Dear Death Grips,

It looks like 2012 is your time to shine. First you signed a deal with Epic (Sony) and now you’ve teamed up with MTV for this choose-your-own-adventure style video.

For those who have yet to see this interactive collaboration, the video for “I’ve Seen Footage” lets you check out the activities of pool partygoers from each of their own perspectives.

You can make any number of big decisions like dancing with bikini babes or pushing your drunk friend into the pool.

Explore the party for yourself > here

Love Letter #26 “Monetizing The Music Video”

Dear Musicians,

If you wanted to start making money from your music videos, would you go to the extent of turning it into an online shopping experience? Well that’s what Australian rapper, Iggy Azalea, did with her song “I Think She Ready” .

The difference in this experience are the “S” icons that repeatedly appear throughout (see below).

When you click on one of these icons, the video will pause and pull up a page showcasing all of the products worn in the shot. From there, you’re only a few clicks away from adding those items to your shopping cart.

As others have mentioned, this could go beyond a clothes shopping experience and we might soon have the opportunity to purchase furniture, trips, cars, beverages… maybe even life insurance through 5 minute music video.

Will you take the leap?

Love Letter #25 “Happy 40th Birthday Video Games”

Dear Video Games,

Following Gamasutra’s lead, I choose to believe that your birth as ‘home’ video games began in 1972 with the Odyssey game system. Since then, you’ve revolutionized the entertainment industry as a multi-billion dollar behemoth but unfortunately collected a fair share of haters and non-believers along the way.

I, for one, loved you since the day we met. If you seem to forget that day, it was back in the 80’s at a family gathering and began with my older cousin saying…

“I got this game where you have a gun and shoot ducks on TV. Wanna try it?”

Yes, that’s right, I found you through a mean game of Duck Hunt, and although I could barely stand that pesky dog popping up out of the grass to laugh at my poor shooting skills, my tenacity shone through and I managed to complete the first 3 levels before it was time to go home.

Since then, I’ve seen you evolve into the leader I knew you would and can’t wait to celebrate your success at next week’s NY Gaming Conference.

Love,

Sheekster
